**Please note that during the summers months (May- Aug) we are unable to run our support-line services 24-7 due to limited funding and staffing.**

SASSL is a peer-based support line. We provide peer support from a trauma-informed and survivor-centric lens. We are not a crisis line and it is not within our scope of practice to do crisis intervention and management work. If you are experiencing an emergency or crisis, we encourage you to call the:
Gerstein Crsis Centre 24 Hour Line – 416-929-5200
Toronto Rape Crisis Centre 24 Hour Crisis Line –
Trans Lifeline Canada – 877-330-6366
Emergency Services – 911
We want to leave room for survivors to discuss feelings of anxiety and depression. These are common responses to trauma. However, if you are suicidal and disclose that you have a plan and/or the means to carry out this plan, we are obligated to hang up and call 911. If you disclose that a child is being abused, we will need to disclose this information to CAS after our call had ended.
We state this at the beginning of each call. In so doing, we aim to be as transparent and honest with callers regarding self-harm and suicide – this is how we attempt to mitigate our relationship with institutions like the police/ CAS, centre survivors in our work, and practice harm – reduction.
Call any time you feel:
- Confused, sad, violated, angry, anxious
- Uncomfortable talking to people you know
- Unsure about your feelings
Call any time you need:
- Someone to listen
- Peer-based, anonymous support
- Information or referrals on receiving financial support, sexual health, medical conditions, a safe place to stay, counselling, other support lines, or where to get legal advice
- Information on other campus resources and offices related to sexual violence
